But, I'm not Qualified!

Daniel 2:30: "But as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me for any wisdom residing in me more than in any other living man, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king.

Each January, I spend time working on my goals for the upcoming year. It is a tool that helps me stay focused on what needs my attention. I always have more plans than can be tackled in 365 days, so this year, my prayer has been “direct my steps.”

There are many good things I’m a part of, things I want to pursue, and even plans I think God puts on my heart. And since they are all seemingly valid, choosing which one is more important seems daunting.

While I’ve been praying consistently for God to direct my steps, He has steered me in certain directions. He’s confirmed I need to move forward with writing more, launching my website, and sharing more frequently. And while He continues to “direct my steps” over and over, I keep arguing with the Creator of the Universe that I’m not qualified!

I’m not qualified to move forward with His plan because I get scared - scared of rejection, scared to be vulnerable, scared of failure.

In the book of Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar was distressed because of his dream, and his servants were instructed to tell him the dream as well as interpret it. Since they couldn't, the King gave orders that all the wise men of Babylon should be killed, which included Daniel and his friends.

Daniel requested the king give him time to interpret the dream. So, he went away to seek the Lord, and God revealed to Daniel the dream and the meaning of the dream.

After Daniel shared with the King, lives were spared and Daniel said, “But as for me, this mystery has not been revealed to me for any wisdom residing in me more than in any other living man, but for the purpose of making the interpretation known to the king.”

God used Daniel, not because he was wise, but because King Nebeekinezer needed to know the interpretation of the dream. It’s really quite simple.

Is there something God is directing your steps in? It’s not because you are wise or great - although you just might be! It’s because someone else needs to hear your words or observe your actions.

We are all scared of failure, scared to be rejected, or scared we didn’t hear God correctly. We wait for confirmation again and again, but what we need is to walk in the steps He’s directing.

This week, whether it’s big or small, will you allow God to direct your steps? Will you send that text, call the neighbor, do the act of kindness? It may be God is calling you to take action steps toward something huge that scares you. Do it!

Like Daniel, it’s not because you are wise; it’s not because you are worthy. It’s because we serve a great God who can use the simple, the broken, and the meek to show His love in the world. He uses the unqualified to do His mighty work!
